Need help decoding guy code?

So basically I need help from all you guys out there. Me and this guy met, and had an instant connection. We were together for about 2 months and everything was really going great, and he was 100% there and the relationship was going great. His friends would even often make comments about how he would talk about me and how happy he seemed with me. Then out of the blue after a weekend of him not answering his phone he left me a message. it said something along the lines of "please understand, I think it would be better if we were just friends. Theres a lot you dont know about me that can, and will hurt you. I wish I was everything you want me to be and I dont want to walk away from this but I feel I have to. Your a sweet girl and I taint everything I touch so im preventing that ahead of time. Its not that I dont want to see you, because I do, but I just dont want to be in a relationship. We should just be friends. You dont really know how I am and I dont want to put you through it. I really wish I could stay with you, but this is for the best." So whats up with that? The way I see it if he wanted to stay, he would. Im 20 and he's 22 if that helps. But anyone want to help decode this? or is it somehow just what he said?
